Meet Our Staff



Dr. Sanjiv Bhandari, DVM

Dr. S Bhandari holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Science (DVM) from the School of Veterinary Medicine, Punjab Agricultural University (India) and a Master’s degree in Animal Nutrition from the University of Manitoba.

He began his career as a mixed animal practitioner in India for 4 years before moving to Canada. Prior to opening his own practice, he worked at Fort Garry Veterinary Hospital and Southglen Veterinary Hospital for two and three years, respectively.

His professional interests include: small animal internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, emergency medicine, and critical care. Dr. Bhandari is a strong believer in teamwork. Dr. Bhandari is a member of Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association.

He lives with his wife, a daughter, and a son. Away from work, he enjoys traveling, watching sports, and spending time with his family.

Dr. Sav Virdi, DVM

Dr. Sav Virdi has been practicing veterinary medicine in Winnipeg since 2011. In these years he has accumulated experience in small animal medicine and surgery.  He is committed to excellent and compassionate veterinary care to all furry friends. His dedication and passion for the profession indulges him to update his knowledge and refine his practice skills through continuing education, journals and veterinary seminars.

He loves to enjoy his spare time with his family, (a daughter, son and his wife and mother) and a cat named Majnu.



Amy Otto, Registered Veterinary Technician

Amy has been a Registered Veterinary Technician with us since our opening in August 2014. She graduated from Red River College in June 2013 and received the MVTA Compassionate Care Award. Amy has a special interest in patient nursing care, ultrasound imaging, anesthesia, small animal nutrition, and canine behaviour. She shares her home with her boyfriend Dylan and their 3 rescue dogs Lucy, Molly and Letti, and 2 cats Charlie and Tucker. When not at work, Amy enjoys spending time at home with her pets, going to the dog park, and attending Winnipeg Jets games!

Alisha Anaka, Registered Veterinary Technician

Alisha has been working with us since February 2015. She started as a Veterinary Assistant, and joined us as a Registered Veterinary Technician after her graduation from Red River College in June 2018. Alisha has a special interest in laboratory diagnostics (such as urinalysis and microscope evaluation), client communication, and anesthesia. She shares her home with her husband Greg, their rescue dog Brownie, and 2 cats Olivia and Elliot.

Katherine Dow, Registered Veterinary Technician

Katherine has been working at Plessis Veterinary Hospital since October 2017. She first started on weekends while studying to come a Registered Veterinary Technician at Red River College, and graduated in June 2018 with honors. Katherine has always had a love for animals, after getting her first dog at the age of 4. She now has a 2 year dog named Jax, who loves the family and loves to speak his mind. In her downtime, Katherine enjoys relaxing with a good book, spending time her family and friends, and cooking.

Jessica Hart, Veterinary Assistant

Oceane Reid, Veterinary Assistant

Oceane has been an assistant with us since September 2017. She has 2 dogs: Squirrel and Talise, 2 cats: Marnie and Monroe, and a 28 year old horse: Tiffany. Oceane enjoys doing dog agility, dogs shows, herding and teaching tricks to her dogs. In the future, she hopes to be doing flyball and acting classes with her dogs! In her spare time, Oceane loves nature, spending time with her fiancé, hiking and travelling.

Sydney Derksen, Veterinary Assistant

Sydney has been working here since October 2018. After graduating from the Veterinary Assistant program at Robertson College and finishing a 4 week work practicum at our hospital, she was hired on full time. At home, Sydney has a rescue dog named Kya who loves to cuddle and run outside. When not at work, Sydney loves spending time with her boyfriend, family and friends. She also enjoys the outdoors doing many different activities.

Carly Ellis, Office Assistant

Carly has been with us since April 2017 after graduating from the Office Assistant program at Robertson College. She enjoys travelling, shopping and being at the gym. In her downtime, Carly loves to spend time wither husband of 10 years and their dog, Torque, a Cane Corso/American Bulldog – who fills her heart (and her bed!).

Ainsley Balcewich, Office Assistant

Ainsley has been working at Plessis Veterinary Hospital since July 2018. When she’s not busy answering our phone, she enjoys spending time her boyfriend and their many animals, including dogs, goats, horses and a donkey! Her favourite activities are going on long trail rides with her horses and curling up with her dogs and good book.

Riley Daku, Office Assistant

Riley has been working at Plessis Veterinary Hospital since February 2018. When she’s not at work she is busy attending classes for her Bachelor of Social Work or spending time with her rescue dog Dixie and 2 cats Fred and Elliot. Riley also enjoys going to her cabin and spending time with her family.
